'GHOST,' 'WOMAN,' 'HOME ALONE' TOPS FOR 1990.(Preview)

"Ghost" took in greater rentals in North American theaters during 1990 than any other movie, followed by "Pretty Woman," according to Variety's annual compilation. But eventually both will be passed on the all-time chart by 1990's third top movie, "Home Alone."

Rentals are the portion of the total gross returned to the distributor, which in the case of "Ghost" is Paramount. It is generally calculated to be about half of the gross. North America, in turn, represents about half of the world revenue.
